The National Weather Service Chicago says concentrated areas of notable straight-line wind damage occurred in and near Griffith and Merrillville in northwest Indiana last night (Wednesday June 24 2026). There were also flooded streets in both communities following heavy rainfall. The Griffith area also saw hail. The National Weather Service on its website also said Wednesday night’s storms produced at least one brief tornado in the northwest suburbs of Chicago near Huntley, Illinois, “where a video showed debris getting lofted and swirled around in the air near a narrow funnel cloud.” Here is a link for updates on the June 24, 2026, severe weather — https://www.weather.gov/lot/2026_06_24_SevereWeather .
