In far northeastern Porter County, the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) says CSX Railroad will close U.S. 20 at their crossing between Ardendale Avenue and County Line Road just west of Michigan City on or after Monday June 1, 2026. U.S. 20 will be closed in this location for about five days while CSX conducts work on their crossing. The closure will be confined to the railroad crossing, and local access will be maintained up to that point. Through traffic should seek alternate routes. The official detour will follow State Road 49, Interstate 94 and U.S. 421.
