In Valparaiso, the city invites the community to a Neighborhood Workshop titled “Volunteer Recruitment in Your Neighborhood” on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, from 5:30 to 7 pm at the Forest Park Welter Room on West Sheffield Drirve. Designed for both established neighborhood leaders and residents interested in getting more involved in their neighborhoods, the session will share how to recruit and retain volunteers by making clear, specific asks and how to connect skills to real neighborhood needs, a news release said. After a welcome and update from Mayor Costas, the session will cover strategies for defining roles, engaging volunteers, and creating onboarding experiences that empower individuals to take ownership and make an impact.
“Strong neighborhoods are built when residents feel connected, informed and empowered to take action,” said Maggie Clifton, Community Engagement Director. “Our Neighborhood Workshop series is designed to bring neighborhood leaders together and provide tools that help residents turn their neighborhood goals into a reality.”
Upcoming workshop topics include “Reimagining the Neighborhood Directory” in June, “Mastering Meetings (featuring the Shafer Leadership Academy) in August, and “Turning Ideas Into Action: Planning Neighborhood Projects” in October.
