Union Pacific Railroad says its famed Big Boy No. 4014, the world’s largest operating steam locomotive, is heading to the East Coast this spring and summer as part of a historic coast-to-coast tour to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary – and will travel through northwest Indiana as part of the journey. The tour includes stops for the first time in Indiana, Ohio, New York and Pennsylvania. Union Pacific also says there will be eight major public display events, and rail fans will also be able to see the historic machine at over four dozen whistle-stops, generally 15- to 30- minutes long, including one in Argos, Indiana, in Marshall County June 5, 2026, and one in Knox in Starke County July 16, 2026. The eastern leg of the tour will operate across the Norfolk Southern network, marking a historic collaboration between the two railroads, and starts May 25, 2026, from Cheyenne, Wyoming, a news release said.
