In Valparaiso, the city invites the community to its second-ever Valparaiso Community Conference. “If you want to become more involved in the Valparaiso community, we invite you to join us for this day of connection through insightful speakers, interactive workshops and networking opportunities,” said Maggie Clifton, Director of Community Engagement for the City of Valparaiso.
“Whether you’re new in town or you’ve lived here for ages, this conference is an opportunity to find more meaningful ways to engage in our neighborhoods and across the community,” Clifton said.
The event sold out last year. Executive Director of the Indiana-based Shafer Leadership Academy will be the keynote speaker at this year’s event. Other speakers will include Steve Poulos, Executive Director for Valparaiso City Services; Maggie Clifton, Community Engagement Director for City of Valparaiso; Steve Martinson and Paul Chen from Valpo Parks Horticulture with a presentation on “Native Plants at Home”; and Valparaiso Fire Chief Chad Dutz and Valparaiso Police Chief Andrew McIntyre, “Safe and Connected: How Police and Fire Partner with the Community”. The event is Thursday, April 23, 2026, 10 am to 3 pm at Valparaiso University’s Harre Union. Admission is $25, which includes lunch. Registration is available online.
