In Illinois, the Lansing Fire Department is offering Steps to Safety™: Prevent Fire and Falls at Home, a free educational program designed to equip older adults with essential fire and fall prevention strategies. The event will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at Lansing Fire Department Headquarters on Chicago Avenue. The program focuses on 16 key safety messages eight for fire prevention and eight for fall prevention. “By addressing these two critical safety concerns, we can help older adults remain independent and safe in their homes,” said Lansing Fire Chief Chad Kooyenga. “Steps to Safety™ provides practical knowledge and preventive measures that can make a real difference in their daily lives.” Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged.
