The Canadian Pacific Kansas City -CPKC- Holiday Train is expected to travel through northwest Indiana this weekend on its way to northeast Illinois – and in years past, Region residents have gotten up up very early to see it go by. The train features brightly decorated illuminated railcars in its annual journey, an event launched in 1999 raising funds and collecting food for food banks across the U.S. and Canada. “Every year, our railroaders take great pride in bringing the Holiday Train across our network, this year reaching even more communities for the first time,” CPKC President/CEO Keith Creel said in a news release. “We are thrilled to send this beautiful train filled with lights and music to spread the joy of the season and proud to support the giving spirit of the holidays assisting people experiencing food insecurity. It’s incredible to see communities come together every year to celebrate the holidays while supporting local food banks.” There are no Region stops, but the westbound train is expected to roll through La Porte, Porter, and Lake counties during the predawn hours of November 23, 2025, according to the Town of Chesterton’s Facebook page, reaching La Porte shortly after 3 am Central Time and downtown Chesterton a little after 3:30 am, all times estimated.
