In Valparaiso, the Police Department in conjunction with Valparaiso Community Schools announces the addition of a fourth School Resource Officer (SRO). Patrolwoman Michelle Kodicek began her duties at Thomas Jefferson Middle School on July 1st, 2023. The school’s current SRO since 2018, Patrolman Shannon Morris, will be taking the lead as School Resource Officer for all the district’s elementary schools. Patrolwoman Kodicek is a 23-year veteran of law enforcement all with the Valparaiso Police Department and during her tenure has served as a member of the Patrol Division, a member of the Porter County Hazardous Material Team, an Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board Instructor, and Field Training Officer. Patrolwoman Kodicek has also been very active within the Valparaiso school system and community over the years, while earning multiple commendations, the news release said.
