In Chesterton, the 15th Annual Perseid Meteor Shower and Stargaze is at Indiana Dunes State Park this Saturday night, August 13th. The park says sky lore stories will begin at 8:30pm at the State Park Pavilion with the best star observations taking place after 9:30 p.m. There will also be deep sky viewing and constellation talks. Visitors can bring a chair or towel and enjoy views from the beach until midnight. The annual event marks the peak of the meteor shower. It’s been observed for over two thousand years as the Earth passes through the orbit of a comet named Swift-Tuttle. The celestial show becomes visible in mid-July.
