In Gary, a citywide cleanup campaign called “All In Gary!” is getting underway today and tomorrow, September 17-18. A news release says it begins with a send-off by Mayor Jerome Prince at 8:30 this morning, as employees from across all city departments will fan out across the downtown area on cleanup and landscaping projects. Today’s kickoff will also feature a COVID-19 vaccination site to be held by the Gary Health Department. As part of the campaign, city crews and volunteers will be available to help community groups, families and companies clean up their neighborhoods twice a month, weather permitting.
Following are the first cleanup areas for “All In Gary!”, kick-off:
• Gateway Park East and West (north of City Hall);
• Areas surrounding the Genesis Center and the city park on 5th and Broadway;
• Broadway corridor from 2nd Ave. to 11th Ave.;
• Massachussetts St., 5th Ave. to 9th Ave.
• The Adam Benjamin Metro Center;
• Multiple sites throughout Glen Park.
Groups interested in joining the ongoing campaign may call (219) 881-1300 for more information. Rachelle Morgan-Ceaser, deputy director of Public Works, said General Services crews have
been working well in advance of the cleanup campaign on multiple gateways to the City. She also welcomed help from companies, like Great Lakes Industrial, and volunteers in the kick-off.
“So many people want to make a difference in our city, and this is a great way to get everyone involved,” Morgan-Ceaser said. “I’m proud of the work our crews have already done, and I’m
looking forward to seeing our city’s transformation.”
