In Gary Wednesday evening, Indiana State Police say a traffic stop for a seatbelt violation at 19th and Hayes Street led to the discovery of six pounds of marijuana in a vehicle. Troopers say the 23-year-old driverwas arrested and taken to Lake County Jail on charges of Possession of Marijuana over 30 grams, Dealing Marijuana and Operating While Intoxicated under a Controlled Substance. Police say it's an example of how alleged criminals and illegal drugs are often discovered on traffic stops for simple traffic violations. Police say anyone with information about illegal drugs can call the Indiana State Police Drug Tip Line at 1-800-453-4756. Indiana State Police say tips can be made and kept anonymous.
