Indiana lawmakers are gathering in Indianapolis today for Organization Day, a largely ceremonial gathering for state senators and representatives, but new bills can be filed. The Senate will convene 1 p.m. Eastern Time, the House a half-hour later. Among the new local faces are Republicans Rick Niemeyer of Lowell, newly-elected State Representative for the new House District 11, which includes portions of Lake and Porter Counties, and State Represemtative Hal Slager of Schererville, representing the new House District 15, which is entirely in Lake County. State lawmakers will reconvene January seventh for the 118th session of the Indiana General Assembly. The current District 15 State Representative since 2002 won re-election as State Representative for House District 25, a victory for Republican Don Lehe of Brookston. Prior to redistricting, District 15 included all of Benton County and portions of Lake, Newton and White Counties. After this month's elections, Republicans now hold a supermajority in both the Indiana House and Senate.
