Lake County Sheriffs Police say a 26-year-old Chesterton man is being held in jail on operating while intoxicated causing death after a crash at 109th and US 41 in St. John just before 6:30 Saturday evening. The person who died was a 66-year-old woman from St. John, and her husband was hospitalized. The driver of a third vehicle was treated and released. Police say the suspect's blood alcohol content was point-2-1-6, more than twice the legal limit. Police allege the man made a U-turn south of 109th Avenue, then went thru a red light, where he struck the car the victim was riding in, and that vehicle went into the path of another.
