A middle class group of Region Hoosiers are having to face something they thought they'd never see--having no money for food. The Salvation Army of Lake County Indiana says longer periods of unemployment and a high jobless rate in conjunction with a seasonal low in donations are creating a heavy demand for food relief as this group is now joining their regulars for food assistance. With requests for help coming in at a steady pace, the Salvation Army says it is simply running out of food and is asking the community for donations for non perishable food items as well as meat.
The Food Pantry is in particular need of the following items:
* Peanut butter
* Jelly
* Hamburger Helper
* Macaroni and Cheese
* Spaghetti
* Spaghetti sauce with meat
* Ground beef
* Chicken
* Hot dogs
Donations by mail can be sent to The Salvation Army, 8225 Columbia Avenue, Munster, IN 46321
