Police in Michigan City say running a stoplight or stop sign is the cause or a factor in many traffic crashes they respond to... and they're working an aggressive driving enforcement grant to cut those numbers. The department also just released statistics from their “Big City/County” traffic enforcement grant for July. They had nine extra patrols working overtime, paid from a grant from the Indiana Governors Council. Officers say they stopped seventy-seven vehicles for traffic violations, that included several seat belt violations and speeding citations, and one arrest for driving under the influence.
