Second Chance 4 Pets Network, a local animal rescue, and Xtreme Motorsports will co-host "A Home for the Holidays" Pet Adoption Event and Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, December 21, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Xtreme Motorsports, 6647 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond, Indiana. There will be pets available for adoption and/or fostering. Santa Claws will be taking pictures with your pets for a nominal fee. Bazaar items include baked goods, Second Chance apparel and pet calendars, jewelry and gifts for your pet.
The Dunes Dog Training Club's next Puppy Obedience class will begin on January 15, 2014. This class is for puppies 2-6 months of age; cost for the class is $80.00 for the 7 week session. Owners must bring proof of their puppies current vaccinations on the first night; puppies should be wearing a flat, buckle-type collar attached to a 6ft leather leash. Experienced instructors teach owners how to train their puppies in very basic obedience, using positive reinforcement only in the form of food & treats. The Dunes Dog Training Club will offer a Canine Good Citizen (CGC) class for owners & their dogs, in preparation for passing the CGC test & receiving the CGC title from the American Kennel Club (AKC). There will be 7 weeks of training, & the final week will be an actual CGC test; cost for this class is $90.00, including the fee for the CGC test itself. Santa is making a special stop at Southlane Veterinary Hospital, 1259 South Sturdy Road, Valparaiso, Indiana on Sunday, December 8th! Bring your 4 legged, fluffy or even feathery loved ones to get their photo taken with Santa. You can be in the picture too.

Best Buddies Pet Pantry Inc. will also be joining us. Bring any new dog/cat food or treats, food for birds/fish/rabbits/ferrets, re-sealable plastic bags (gallon & quart size), new/gently used collars & leashes, plastic shopping bags, pet food coupons to donate to them.
Pet Pictures with Santa at McAfee Animal Hospital (Dr. Larry McAfee is Santa) Sunday Dec 15th bring your pets out to have their pictures taken with Santa for only $10.00 each pet will receive a treat bag. There will also be Punch and Cookies for the family too. You are welcome to be in the photo with you fur baby.
This is a Guardians of the Green Mile fundraiser to help with vetting bills.
Wildlife Holiday at Gibson Woods Nature Preserve is held on Saturday, December 14 from 1 to 3 p.m. It is free to attend but registration is required at 219-844-3188. Individual sign ups only (no groups)
Every year, during the holiday season, the public is invited to share a little holiday cheer with the wildlife at Gibson Woods. Join in the fun by making edible ornaments and decorating the trees and shrubs with them outside the wildlife viewing area windows. Afterwards, stay a while to watch the birds, squirrels and other wildlife discover the treats we’ve made for them. Don’t forget to make one to take home for the wildlife in your own backyard, Stop by between 1 and 3 p.m. to take part in a “Wildlife Holiday”.
