Government Shutdown Hurting Meals On Wheels

The partial government shutdown continues and is impacting many across the nation including here in northwest Indiana. Meals on Wheels Executive Director Sandra Noe says many meals to seniors are funded through the Older Americans Act and even more seniors are on waiting lists, and with the sequester and now the shutdown, she says they're looking at things only getting worse.
Noe says in Lake County, they deliver one-thousand meals a day to seniors and national statistics show one in seven seniors are at risk for hunger, which equates to seven-thousand seniors in northwest Indiana.
Noe asks residents to contact your representatives in Congress and tell them how important senior nutrition is to the quality of life in northwest Indiana. She also wants you to consider donating to Meals on Wheels because, if the shutdown continues much longer, more and more seniors will be in need of help.
