On August 28, 2013 the Greater Northwest Indiana Association of REALTORS® (GNIAR) held its Trade Expo and Annual Meeting at the Avalon Manor in Merrillville where more than 300 local REALTORS® were in attendance.
“We look forward to this event every year. It’s an opportunity for our members to network with one another and our Affiliate members, hear directly from leadership, reflect on the past year and find out the latest initiatives and updates,” GNIAR Chief Executive Officer Peter Novak, Jr. said. “Our members are busier than ever right now. You could sense the excitement in the air. The local housing market has been rebounding in a big way and our Trade Expo and Annual Meeting reflected that.”
Also present that day were 40 exhibitors made up of GNIAR’s Affiliate Members such as lenders, title companies, home warranty companies, mold remediation companies, virtual tour creators and more. GNIAR invited two housing related charities, Sojourner Truth House and Housing Opportunities, to take part in the expo. Attendees were encouraged to bring non-perishable food items for the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana. The Association introduced its membership to its latest committee, “Greater Northwest Indiana Association of REALTORS® Young Professionals Network.”
“This was one of our biggest expos in recent years. We were thrilled to have so many new and returning Affiliate members take part as well as highlight ways our members can get more involved in the community and the Association,” Novak said.
The expo, which also featured an opportunity to vote for 2014 GNIAR Officers and Directors and free seminars, led into the afternoon Annual Meeting where Governor Mike Pence was slated as the keynote speaker.
“The Governor gave a rallying speech that highlighted key components as to why Northwest Indiana and Indiana as a whole are wonderful places to live, work and have a business,” Novak says. “This information is just what our members can share with their clients who are considering our area. It is an honor and a testament to the professionalism of our Association to have Indiana’s governor address our membership three times in the last six years.”
