The non-profit Unity Foundation of La Porte County has started an effort -- The Mount Baldy Miracle Fund – to help the family of a six-year-old Sterling, Illinois, boy rescued from beneath eleven-feet of sand at Mount Baldy in Michigan City Friday. Doctors in Chicago say six-year-old Nathan Woessner is recovering rapidly, though they continue to address the issue of sand in his lungs. The child is expected to be at University of Chicago for about two weeks. Officials say he was climbing the giant sand dune with family when he was pulled under. Rescuers reached him four hours later, and authorities believe an air pocket below saved his life.
