Sheriff's Police across the state line in Cook County will be stepping up enforcement patrols over the holiday weekend. According to Sheriff Thomas J. Dart, officers will be on the lookout for seat belt law violators during the nighttime hours Thursday, July 4th through Sunday July 6th.
Also, Extra patrols will also be conducted for various traffic violations as well. Sheriff Dart says the weekend reinforcements are funded through grants from the Illinois Department of Transportation.
The patrols are done to help remind motorists to drive safely. In Illinois, motor vehicle crashes killed more than 50 people over the last five Independence Day holiday periods, according to IDOT.
