An early morning crash on I-65 in Lake County shut down southbound lanes for about four hours Indiana State Police at the Lowell Post say a preliminary investigation revealed a 22-year-old Hobart man, whose blood alcohol content allegedly tested .24, three-times the legal limit, rear-ended another vehicle before 61st Avenue, then lost control. A third vehicle stopped, and the driver got out to check on the first driver struck, then a semi jackknifed, and got hung up on the outer shoulder's guard rail. Police say the suspect was treated and released for lacerations to his face and charged with Felony Operating While Intoxicated, Driving While Suspended Prior and was wanted on a warrant for Misdemeanor Battery. The semi was described as a total loss, but the driver was not injured. Police also say the driver of the first vehicle hit was unhurt, and four occupants inside the third passenger vehicle were treated and released.
