The Indiana Department of Corrections announced today the mistaken release of an offender from authorities in Chicago. The I-D-O-C reports 44 year old Steven Robbins, who was born in Gary, and was serving a 50 year sentence for murder and carrying a handgun without a license out of Marion County, Indiana, was released from the Indiana State Prison on a court order on Tuesday to the Cook County Circuit Court on a detainer for possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. Authorities report the charges were dropped, but for reason yet unknown, Robbins was released by Illinois authorities without being held for return to I-D-O-C custody. A warrant has been issued for his arrest in both Indiana and Illinois. Police described Robbins as a black male, approximately five-feet five inches tall, weighing 190-pounds, with a tattoo on the right side of his neck that says, “Nicole”. Anyone who comes into contact with Robbins is asked to not approach him, but rather contact the nearest law enforcement agency, or dial 9-1-1.
