A Lake County state lawmaker has introduced legislation that would bump up Lake County membership on the South Shore governing board from two members to five. Munster State Representative Mara  Candelaria-Reardon told the Times it's meant to provide representation in proportion to where ridership is coming from. House Bill 14-50 would leave the county commissioner presidents from Lake, Porter, LaPorte and St. Joseph counties on the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation Board , remove the county council member seats and some others, and add, through guidelines based on population, the mayors of Gary, Hammond, East Chicago, Crown Point, Portage, Valparaiso, Michigan City, LaPorte and South Bend.
