Indiana State Police Lowell News Release -The Indiana State Police Lowell Post recently welcomed seven new troopers who had graduated from the 72nd Indiana State Police Recruit Academy. The new troopers are Zachary Beaver, Brandon Bohling, Nicholas Daly, Rogelio Escutia, Erik Kocinski, Jason Madison and Brandon Urquidi..
Trooper Beaver is 25 years old from Crown Point and graduated from Crown Point High School. He received a Bachelor’s Degree from Indiana University Northwest in Political Science. Beaver spent three years active duty in the Army Infantry. He and his family are residing in Lake County.
Trooper Bohling is 27 years old from Hammond and graduated from Gavit High School. He attended Purdue Calumet where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Criminal Justice. Bohling resides in Lake County
Trooper Daly is 25 years old from Burlington, Iowa and graduated from Burlington High School. He has a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from Western Illinois University in Law Enforcement. He is also residing in Lake County.
Trooper Escutia is 30 years old from Hammond and graduated from Clark High School. He attended Purdue Calumet studying Sociology and Criminal Justice. He has five years active duty in the Army and five years in the Army Reserves. He is residing in Lake County.
Trooper Kocinski is 24 years old from the south side of Chicago and graduated from Mount Carmel High School. He received a Bachelor’s Degree from Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois in Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement and a minor in Fire Administration. He too resides in Lake County.
Trooper Madison is 21 years old from Indianapolis and graduated from Franklin Central High School. He attended IUPUI University for two years. He also attended officer candidate school for the Marine Corp. Madison worked for United Parcel Service and resides in Lake County.
Trooper Urquidi is 26 years old from Merrillville and graduated from Merrillville High School. He attended Joliet Junior College where he studied Political Science and Criminal Justice. He spent four years active duty in the Navy working on the flight deck. Urquidi resides in Lake County.
All seven troopers have begun their 14 weeks of field training with experienced troopers. The field training program allows them the opportunity to put the skills and knowledge they gained in the academy to work in the real world environment. Upon successful completion of the field training program they will receive their own patrol vehicles and begin solo patrol duties.
During the academy, recruits received approximately 930 hours of structured law enforcement training which included 80 hours of criminal law, 80 hours of emergency vehicle operations training, and 47 hours of traffic law. They also developed skills in criminal investigation, 47 hours of vehicle crash investigation, impaired driver detection and other numerous law related subjects.
