Derby Ditch Prescribed Fire Today

The Fire Management staff at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore say they'll be conducting the Derby Ditch prescribed fire, involving about 323 acres East State Park Road and Beverly Drive north of Highway 12, in the town of Beverly Shores today. The prescribed fire is part of the ongoing restoration of the Great Marsh in the park.. Officials say you'll be able to see and smell smoke throughout the day and into the evening. Firefighters are scheduled to monitor the fire into the evening.
