A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Friday night to celebrate the 40thanniversary of the Indiana University School of Medicine – Northwest, and the successful renovation of their current facilities. Associate Dean Doctor Patrick Bankston says the state and nation are facing a severe shortage of physicians in the near future due to demographic reasons, like baby boomers retiring., so through great community support a one-million dollar fund raising campaign was held to help renovate and expand to increase enrollment to meet those needs by reconfiguring classrooms to accommodate up to 50 students, and will now begin raising funds for the expansion of the gross anatomy lab. Bankston says our generous donors are helping to improve the health and vitality of the region, and that the future of patient care in our region is dependent upon our ability to attract and educate enough of tomorrow's physicians and health care providers, today.
