Multiple thefts of copper wiring from South Shore railroad tracks in the span of a week have stopped because authorities say they believe they have the vehicle used in the thefts impounded. Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District Police Chief Bob Byrd informed officials on Wednesday, during their public meeting, that they allegedly discovered the rail district's wire in the vehicle, after interviewing a suspect regarding the incidents. Chief Byrd told the Board that it could have been difficult identifying the wire otherwise. The incidents began on September 13th, with 6 instances in total, between Beverly Shores and Michigan City, causing an estimated 13-thousand dollars in damage, and resulting in delays for commuters.
