City officials say beginning this week survey teams will be going door-to-door gathering general information from a random pool of respondents to identify health needs of East Chicago residents. Funded by a grant from the Foundations of East Chicago, the "Healthier East Chicago 2012 and Beyond" survey is described as a collaborative effort between St. Catherine Hospital, the East Chicago Health Department, Purdue University Calumet, and others. Diane Garcia-Burns from the city's Health Department says all information obtained will be confidential. Garcia-Burns also says focus groups will also be conducted in districts throughout the city at a later date.
