In Glen Park, the City of Gary Parks Department held a ceremony to officially reopen the North Gleason Driving Range Wednesday. Closed for years after the devastating floods of September 2008, the newly restored , most-recently overgrown, location sits just south of the I 80-94 overpass at Broadway not far from the campus of Indiana University Northwest. Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson and 5th District Councilwoman Kimberly Robinson joined Parks Superintendent Lori Latham Peterson and her staff to greet golfers at the range.
Peterson spoke of the history of the range noting that it was once the segregated golf area for black residents in the 1950s. She also applauded the Department of General Services for assisting in a massive clean-up that took place over the past six weeks.

Immediately following the reopening ceremony, Freeman-Wilson received a brief golf lesson from golf instructor Darryl Baker.
