A police chase that ended in Hobart with one suspect dead and three others captured began as a home invasion in Porter County Wednesday afternoon. Sgt. Larry LaFlower of the Porter County Sheriff's police says shortly after 5 o'clock, dispatchers received a 9-1-1 call of a home invasion in the 100 block of 450 W in Porter Township. Sgt. LaFlower says a neighbor called and the woman homeowner reported that three white males had broken into the home and left in a vehicle. The neighbor then reportedly gave chase of the suspects and remained on the line with dispatchers to report the suspects' location when she was joined by police who started pursuing the suspects' vehicle into Lake County. Traffic tipsters reported dozens of police converging on US-30 in the vicinity of the Southlake Westlake Mall, with police closing off Colorado St. north of US-30. Several other tipsters reported seeing a body under a white covering just south of US-30 off to the side. According to nwi-dot-com, police had one suspect in custody at Chuck E. Cheese's, one at TGI Friday's and one at the southwest corner of US-30 and Colorado. As of 7:00 p.m. this evening, Colorado St. was still barricaded just north of US-30 due to an ongoing police investigation. Sgt. LaFlower says an undetermined amount of money and guns were taken from the residence in Porter Township.
