One person is dead, another seriously injured after a crash this morning on eastbound I-80/94, one-mile west of Grant Street. Indiana State Police Lowell Post reports a tow truck driver was hooking up a disabled straight truck on the outer shoulder, at approximately 4:40am, when a vehicle heading east left the roadway for unknown reasons, drove over the emergency triangles placed behind a pick up at the scene, hit the pickup's driver's door and went under the rear of the straight truck. The Lake County Coroner's Office reports the driver of the vehicle, 42 year old Anthony Easter Sr., of Hammond, was pronounced dead at the scene due to massive blunt force trauma, while the front-seat passenger was airlifted to Advocate Christ Medical in Oak lawn, Illinois. Neither the tow truck driver or the truck driver were injured.
All lanes east and westbound on I-80/94 were closed for a short time for the air ambulance and the right two lanes of eastbound I-80/94 remained closed, near Grant Street until about 9am.
