Americans Finding Diabetes More Manageable

It's still not a disease you want to get - diabetes - but according to a new study, Americans are finding it more manageable. ABC News reports the news that's not encouraging is - from 1990 to 2010 - the number of Americans with diabetes tripled. 26 million now have the disease, with most of the increase coming from Type 2 diabetes, linked to obesity. That said, this study by federal researchers published in The New England Journal of Medicine says, in the last two decades, the rates of heart attack, stroke, kidney failure and amputations fell sharply. The reasons: doctors are better at controlling risk factors and prescribing medication. While patients have become more aware of the dangers of this epidemic.
