LaPorte PD
Police in LaPorte report a warrant is being sought to charge a man struck by a train Thursday night with criminal trespass and public intoxication. Police report officers were called to the Madison Street crossing around 8pm and searched for two hours but found no one after an Amtrak crew stated they believed the train struck someone. The next day, police say they received word of a man staying at an area motel who complained of being hit by a train who was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital. The Times reports the man told officers he was highly intoxicated when he attempted to beat the train by running across the tracks and was struck.
