The Newton County Sheriffs Department is working with federal authorities to investigate a bank robbery in DeMotte. Police say at about 2:30 this past Friday afternoon, officers were dispatched to a robbery call at the DeMotte State Bank on State Road 10 in Roselawn. Authorities say a patrol unit was within a mile-and-a-half of the bank and checked the area for a suspect vehicle described as a silver or grey Oldsmobile four-door passenger car with partial Illinois plate of K 46.  Sheriff Tom VanVleet commended the bank staff for remaining calm. Police say the suspect did not display a weapon. Police say the suspect was described as a Hispanic male, possibly in his late 20's, about 6 foot tall, with minimal facial hair, dressed in black, wearing black gloves and a black sock style hat.  Anyone with information concerning the robbery is encouraged to contact Sgt. Cothran at 219-474-5661.
