A Lake County Sheriffs officer pulls a motorist from a burning vehicle late Monday night. Officer Kyle Kranz was patrolling the southeast area of south Lake County shortly before midnight when he came upon a 2001 Chevy Monte Carlo rolled over in a ditch along State Road 2 just west of the Lake/Porter County Line Road. He called for help, and used his issued fire extinguisher to contain the flames enough to see that someone was inside. The Lake County Sheriffs Office says Kranz smashed the rear window and climbed inside to pull out the driver, 51-year-old Leslie Meyers of Lowell, who was transported to an area hospital. The sheriffs department says a passerby, Robert Jackson, assisted Officer Kranz in trying to put out the fire while awaiting assistance. No information was available on the driver's condition; no injuries were reported to the officer or passerby. The Porter County Sheriff’s Department also arrived on the scene and reports there was a deer carcass just east of County Line which is believed to have been what caused the crash.
