REFUSE DEPARTMENT ANNUAL SPRING CLEAN-UP FOR 2014
The City of Michigan City, Refuse Department will conduct its Annual Spring Clean-Up starting March 24, 2014. The Refuse Department is requesting that all residents separate their debris into the following three (3) categories:
- Brush, limbs, shrubs, yard waste and unpainted concrete. (no black top)
- Rugs, lumber, furniture, box-springs, mattresses and building materials of all sorts.
- All tires rimmed or derimmed can be placed out for pick up with white goods such as stoves, refrigerator, air conditioners, water tanks, dehumidifiers etc.
Residents may use curbside or alleys to put out their debris. The clean-up process is divided into three (3) areas and the pick up for each area will be the same days as your normal refuse pick up day.
THE DATES FOR YOUR AREA PICK-UP WILL BE AS FOLLOWS: (a map with the description of the areas is attached)
AREA 1: MARCH 24-28 REPEATED APRIL 14-18
AREA 2: MARCH 31-APRIL 4 REPEATED APRIL 21-25
AREA 3: APRIL 7-11 REPEATED APRIL 28-MAY 2
Compost pick-ups will begin Monday, May 5, 2014, and will continue until Friday, November 21, 2014. You may use your garbage cans, cardboard boxes and/or paper bags. NO PLASTIC BAGS may be used for compost pick-ups, in addition, NO COMPOST IN REFUSE TOTER’S. All compost pick-ups must be placed out on the curbside for removal and will not be picked up or removed from alleys. The resident will be responsible for getting their compost to the street. Listed below are the schedules for the regular trash pick up and the corresponding pick up day for the composting materials only.

Area 1 is marked by County Line Road on the west, Franklin Street on the east, Kieffer Road on the south and Second Street on the north.
March 31-APRIL 4 & APRIL 21-25
Area 2 is marked by Franklin Street on the west, Michigan Boulevard and Roeske Avenue on the east and Second Street on the north.
APRIL 7-11 & ARPIL 28-MAY 2
Area 3 is marked by Lake Shore Drive and U.S. 12 and Shoreland Drive on the north, Michigan Boulevard on the west and Meer Road on the east.
