Public Comment/Meetings on NIRPC TIP Changes

NIRPC has announced a 30 day public comment period that started yesterday and runs through April 12th on a proposed change to the Transportation Improvement Program for northwest Indiana. The proposed changes would add three new transit projects: a tier two environmental impact study for expansion of commuter rail in Lake County south to Dyer, a three-year demonstration grant for LaPorte County “Triangle” transit service and one expansion transit vehicle for the “Triangle” service. The proposed transit service in LaPorte County would offer six round trips daily between cities and Purdue University North Central.
Four public meetings have also been scheduled, one meeting is scheduled for Saturday, March 22nd at Munster Town Hall from 10am to noon and   three other meetings will be taking place on Wednesday, March 26th at the following locations: Purdue North central from 10am to 1pm, LaPorte City Hall and Michigan City Hall.
The proposed amendment will go before the NIRPC transportation Policy Committee on April 8th, and will be presented to the full NIRPC Commission for adoption on April 17th.
