One person is dead, two others injured after a shooting in Gary Monday night. Gary Police Corp. Gabrielle King told the Region News Team officers were dispatched on a call of shots fired, at 8:45pm, in the 12-hundred block of Dekalb Street. Corp. King say upon their arrival, officers found 19 year old Oshae Hampton who had been shot, and while awaiting an ambulance, noticed a vehicle in the middle of the street with the motor running. Inside the vehicle was 22 year old Brian Cooper and 23 year old Donnell Goodwin, both of whom were also shot. Corp. King says Cooper was later pronounced dead while the other two men were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Corp King says it is unknown at this time what the motive was behind the shooting, or any details leading up to the incident, due to the extent of the injuries suffered by the victims whose conditions are unknown at last check. Anyone with information or was in the vicinity of the scene around 8:45pm Monday night is asked to contact Gary Police Corp. James Neilsen at (219) 881-4754 or Detective Daryl Gordon at (219) 881-4750.
