Authorities are crediting a neighbor's tip in the arrest of a 31 year old man for burglary. The Porter County Sheriff's Office reports a neighbor witnessed the suspect, Christopher Gilbert of Valparaiso, “sneak out” of a trailer in the 500 block of North Calumet Avenue. Gilbert initially fled from officers on scene and was ultimately apprehended by a department K-9 and taken into custody, charged with felony burglary, possession of a controlled substance and resisting law enforcement. Gilbert, who sustained a bite from the K-9 during his apprehension, lives in the trailer park where the burglary by forced entry took place, residing just two trailers over. Several stolen items were reportedly located in the area and Public Information Officer Sgt. Larry LaFlower told the Region News Team that if you witness activity like this to please contact 911.
