A Gary Police Officer was injured on Saturday night after an intoxicated woman struck his vehicle. The Lake County Sheriff's Office reports Officer Tommie Tatum Jr. was taking an accident report while seated in his patrol car with his emergency lights flashing, just before 10:30pm, in the area of 5th Avenue at Fairbanks Street in Gary, when his squad car was struck from behind by 54 year old Jessie Davis, of Gary. The Sheriff's Office reports an investigation of the scene found no signs of the speeding vehicle making any attempt to take evasive action to stop or avoid a collision. Both Officer Tatum and Davis were taken to Methodist Hospital Northlake, where her blood-alcohol level was point-two-one.
Davis was subsequently arrested for operating while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
