Coats Requests Explanation for False WX Warnings in NWI

Senator Dan Coats
Indiana US Senator Dan Coats today announced he sent a letter to the administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association requesting an explanation for why some northwest Indiana residents received alerts on Tuesday about a tornado warning even though the day was sunny and cold, with no severe weather occurring or predicted to occur.
In his letter, Senator Coats stated the notifications failed to clarify if they were test alerts. Coats says in recent years, many Hoosier families and businesses have been changed by severe weather and, “the inadvertent or intentional dissemination of these alerts in the absence of severe weather diminishes their reliability and effectiveness.”
