Gary Transit Approves Hammond Bus Route

In Gary, transit officials have approved a new bus route in Hammond. The Gary Public Transportation Corporation unanimously approved the expansion of service into their neighboring city, naming the new Hammond route “Lakeshore South.” Scheduled to begin May 5th, it will begin at Hohman and State Street in downtown Hammond, and will include Purdue University Calumet in the Woodmar section of the city, and points further south into Highland and Munster. The board also added stops including the East Chicago South Shore station and okayed other changes to its current Tri-City route, renaming it Lakeshore Connx (Connects).  The Northwest Indiana Regional Bus Authority, which replaced the Hammond Transit system in 2010, stopped operating about two years ago.
