Local government leaders and health care providers are working to see what can be done to find funding and help elderly and handicapped residents who rely on transportation services provided by the LaPorte County Council on Aging, The Times reports the agency, which commonly provides rides to doctors appointments, is currently operating under a 60-day extension after a decision to shut down was reversed this month. Reports say the agency has been operating in the red. Officials say more than 35-thousand trips were provided to about eight-hundred people last year.
