Today's snow storm is causing treacherous travel conditions on northwest Indiana roadways. The Indiana Department of Homeland Security reports, at this time, that Lake, Newton, Jasper, Starke and Pulaski counties are under a travel “Watch” meaning only essential travel, such as to and from work or in emergency situations, is recommended. The rest of northwest Indiana is under a travel “Advisory” meaning routine travel or activities may be restricted in areas because of a hazardous situation, and individuals should use caution or avoid those areas.
The National Weather Service in Chicago reports another four-to-eight inches of snow is possible today in northwest Indiana. A Winter Storm Warning continues for Lake, Porter, Newton and Jasper Counties until 9pm CST tonight with a Winter Weather Advisory in effect until 10pm CST tonight for the rest of northwest Indiana. Two-to-four inches of snow is expected in the advisory area.
