An event today in Gary that included over 300 Gary Civic and Business leaders gathered to support education and raised more than 38-thousand dollars. Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson served as the host for the inaugural United Negro College Fund Mayor's Breakfast, which will now become an annual event. The event took place at the Marquette Park Pavilion, with United Negro College Fund President and CEO Michael Lomax Ph.D., serving as the keynote speaker. The United Negro College Fund is the nation's largest and most effective minority education organization, which supports students' education and development through scholarships and other programs.
