Record snowfall, low temperatures and repeated freeze/thaw cycles have taken their toll on roadways in northwest Indiana and across the state. Indiana Governor Mike Pence held a press conference this afternoon at the Gary INDOT/Traffic Management Center to outline the state's strategic blitz or pothole surge in northwest Indiana. Governor Pence says once temperatures rise, the snow patterns cease and paving with hot-mix is allowable, INDOT crews will be deployed on the roadways around the clock to deal with the potholes using existing personnel. Pence says there are no plans to hire any additional workers.
Residents are being urged to report potholes on interstates, US highways and state roads by calling 866-849-1-DOT, online at potholes.indot.in.gov. or on Twitter @indotpotholes.
