Cedar Lake Residents Asked to Clear Snow, Ice

In Cedar Lake, police are seeking the help of residents in clearing snow and/or ice from sidewalks to make it safe for school kids and all pedestrians. Chief Gerald Smith says people have encountered difficulties making their way along area walkways and he's calling on the community to assist in providing safe and clear passage.  The police department says Cedar Lake Town Code 94.23-Removal of Ice and Snow reads as follows:  "It shall be the duty of the owner or the occupant of each and every property of real estate in the town abutting upon any sidewalk to keep the sidewalk abutting his premises free and clear of snow and ice, and to remove therefrom all snow and ice accumulated thereon within a reasonable time, which will ordinarily not exceed 12 hours after the abatement of any storm during which the snow and ice may have accumulated."
