The period of warning tickets and door to door notice is over.
Michigan City Police say as of Wednesday, February 5, 2014, officers have begun ticketing and towing cars in violation of the parking ban on the city's designated "snow routes."
Police Chief Mark Swistek says, "it's imperative that Michigan City streets get plowed so they can remain open and clear for safe passage of public health and safety vehicles as well as for citizens and visitors.
Swistek say, "My department has been patient, we have been issuing warning tickets and knocking on doors asking citizens to move their cars so the city snow plows can clean up our streets in the most safe and efficient manner possible.  It is the responsibility of the citizens to find appropriate parking that is in compliance with the snow ordinance parking restrictions." .
"Unfortunately, in many cases, we are seeing no response to our warnings," adds Swistek.    The Parking Restriction remains in effect until further notice.

Sec. 94-254-Parking restrictions during a snow removal condition are:
(1)  No vehicle shall be parked on a designated “snow route.”
(2)  On even numbered days, no parking shall be permitted on that      side of the street with even numbered addresses from 6:00 a.m. to   midnight.
(3)  On odd numbered days, no parking shall be permitted on that side of the street with odd numbered addresses from 6:00 a.m. to midnight.
