An odd site... that we can also blame on the harsh Region winter... the headless giant statue of Santa standing and waving off of Campbell Street in Valparaiso. City officials say after public works crews in the city starting taking the figure apart, some of the equipment broke down, after the head was already removed. Then they learned the statue is frozen to the ground, thanks to the freeze and thaw that saw Santa's big boots sink into the soil. And the snowstorms kept coming, keeping crews busy with plowing. And, today's Times says because the statue is hollow, a blue tarp was wrapped over the top to keep the statue from filling with snow.
