The Valparaiso Fire Department continues to investigate the cause of a fire that destroyed the new Fagen Pharmacy on the north side of Valparaiso over the weekend. Crews got the call shortly after 11:30 Saturday night, and the last unit cleared the scene around 9:15 Sunday morning. Valparaiso Fire Chief David Nondorf told the Region News Team from a structural perspective, the building is being viewed as a total loss. Single digit temperatures and heavy snow made fighting the blaze even more difficult. There were no injuries. [Photo/Valparaiso Now Facebook page]
Fagen moved to this location on the east side of Calumet Avenue at Country Club Road after fire last June damaged a strip mall just to the south on Calumet Avenue where Fagen and other businesses were located. Fagen Pharmacy posted a statement at their website saying they were two weeks away from opening the entire new building by expanding across all three suites. They had occupied only one suite since moving after the fire last summer.
